Club for Growth releases legislative rankings
The Club for Growth, a national network that promotes economic prosperity, Thursday released its annual scorecard that ranks members of the U.S. House and Senate based on their votes on taxes and other economic issues.
No Kansas lawmaker earned the group’s Defender of Economic Freedom Award, given to those who score 90 percent or higher, but Rep. Todd Tiahrt and Sen. Sam Brownback, both Republicans, came close.
Brownback scored 82 percent, making him 15th among U.S.
senators; Tiahrt scored 80 percent, or 100th among U.S.
House members.
Other Kansas politicians fared more poorly. The rankings:
- Sen. Pat Roberts, R, 57 percent, 32nd
- U.S. Rep. Jerry Moran, R, 45 percent, 165th
- U.S. Rep. Dennis Moore, D, 12 percent, 251st
- U.S. Rep. Nancy Boyda, D, 8 percent, 299th
U.S. senators and Democratic presidential hopefuls Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton both earned zeroes from the Club.
Their Republican counterpart, Sen. John McCain, did not cast sufficient votes to be ranked, though he did earn a 94 percent ranking on the votes he did cast.
