Kansas Liberty: 16 May 2008

Fewer Kansans willing to support Obama if Sebelius is on the ticket.

McCain leads Obama in state poll

His mother may be from El Dorado and Gov. Kathleen Sebelius may be one of his biggest boosters, but according to a Rasmussen poll released Thursday, John McCain is enjoying a twenty-one percentage point advantage over Barack Obama among Kansas voters.

The poll found 55 percent of respondents supported John McCain, while 34 percent supported Barack Obama.  In 2004, George W. Bush carried Kansas by 25 points.

The poll also revealed that only 30 percent of kansas voters think the federal government needs "more revenue for important national programs." More than half the Kansans polled (54 percent) disgree.

On other tax-related issues, 61 percent of Kansans are "worried that the next President will raise taxes som much that it harms the economy," and 63 percent are opposed to a hike in he capital gains tax.

Only 43 percent approves of the job President George W. Bush is doing, but 56 percent say Sebelius is doing a good job.

However, nearly a third of Kansas voters say they are less likely to vote for Barack Obama if he chooses Sebelius as a running mate. Slightly fewer (28 percent) say they'll be more likely to support Obama with Sebelius on the ticket.
