Johnson County important area for candidates
The Olathe Republican Party straw poll last week showed Rep. Todd Tiahrt with a strong lead over his challenger Rep. Jerry Moran. The two Republicans are battling for Sen. Sam Brownback’s position, which Brownback is leaving to pursue the governor’s office.
Tiahrt gained 165 votes to Moran’s 46. Kris Kobach, who is running for secretary of state, was also a clear winner in the straw poll, getting 192 votes. Kobach’s challenger, JR Claeys, received 22 votes.
