Rep. O'Neal receives leadership award
Speaker of the House Mike O’Neal, R-Hutchinson, has been named the recipient of the Jim Edwards Alumnus of the Year Award, an honor awarded each year to a Leadership Kansas alumnus.
Leadership Kansas is an affiliate of the Kansas Chamber of Commerce. The program works to inspire state leaders to “maintain involvement in the social, business and political fabric of Kansas' communities” as well as to “enhance and motivate” future state leaders.
According to a Leadership Kansas news release, the recipients are chosen based on the level of personal success they have achieved or because of the personal contributions they have given to the program.
“O'Neal, who currently serves as the Speaker of the Kansas House of Representatives, has achieved both,” the press release said. “He was unanimously selected due to the leadership he has exhibited in his role as Speaker and for his unselfish contributions of time and talent in support of the Leadership Kansas program.”
Former recipients of the award include Gov. Bill Graves and First District Republican Rep. Jerry Moran.
