Kansas Liberty: 09 March 2009

Derek Schmidt: Nine thousand lawyers 'have extraordinary influence over the composition of the court.' Under new law, the Senate would confirm nominees.

Effort launched in Senate to reform Supreme Court nomination process

A group of Kansas Senators, led by Senate Majority Leader Derek Schmidt, has launched a long-shot effort to change the way state Supreme Court justices are nominated and appointed.

Schmidt, an Independence Republican and a lawyer by profession, said he’d heard some opposing thoughts from fellow members of the bar association. The association  would lose clout in the appointment process if a bill introduced late last week by Schmidt - and 16 Senate co-sponsors - becomes law.

“I’ve argued this point with friends of mine in the bar, and they ask me what I was drinking when I wrote it,” he said.

You're Too Late - Sen. Schmidt, Wagle & Pilcher-Cook!

Posted by Bill McKean at 2009-03-09 18:50
The Kansas Bar Association & the Washburn Law & KU Law Schools condone & cover up criminal activity by prominent judges & attorneys in Kansas. All three branches of Kansas government are controlled by apologists for the corrupt fascist judicial system including Sebelius, Vrtil, Schmidt & O'Neal. Private family attorneys & journalists in Wichita have risked chidlren's lives to sell out their clients & refuse to cover up judicial corruption & misconduct by Nola Foulston's prosecutors to advance the chances of their attorney-spouses to be nominated to the Court of Appeals. A simpler system is to take away all input from the bar association and to allow the governors to choose their own nominees subject to senate confirmation. Yes Democrat governors may nominate well qualified liberal & minority judges but would that necessarily be a bad thing as long as they were honest and had not previously sold their souls to the KBA MAFIA?

Before our so called pro-life pro family Republican senators (who all claim to be for transparency & accountability) negotitate with the criminal racketeers in the black robes, let's allow Rep. Jim Morrison's House Committee on Gvoernment Efficient & Fiscal Responsbility to have investigative hearings with full subpoena power to force corrupt attorneys & bar association officals to plead the 5th to avoid self-incrimination. Would it be so terrible if a few por life Republican jduges were humiliated or do we believe in Reagan's 11th commandment that the GOP condones criminal activity that places children's lives at risk so that parasitic attorneys, case managers & forensic psychoglsits can get rich? After the KBA, San Hazlett, the law schools, the behavioral science board & the Supremes are completely humiliated, you will not have any problem problems eliminating the KBA from any role in the selection process. You Senators need to remember that you are not automaticfally entitld to be re-elected and that you need to protect children even if it goes against financial interests of the Topeka lobbyists & administrative attorneys. Oligarchy

Posted by Ray Parker at 2009-03-10 10:52
This kind of oligarchy, our judicial branch of state government being controlled by a few leftists in the bar association, is corrupting and destructive to self-government in a republic. The voters of Kansas need to stop being lazy and uninformed, and take back THEIR government.
Start by collaring your state senator on this bill.
