Huelskamp picks up another endorsement
The Kansans for Life political action committee announced Wednesday they were endorsing State Sen. Tim Huelskamp, a Fowler Republican, for the First District congressional race.
The jump-start in races to replace both Jerry Moran, in the First Congressional District, and Todd Tiahrt, in the Fourth, have drawn a flurry of early endorsements. The two congressmen are going head-to-head for Sen. Sam Brownback's seat in 2010.
Brownback, in turn, has announced he will seek the governorship of Kansas, replacing the Democratic incumbent.
"Rarely does Kansans for Life PAC make endorsements this early," said Chris Martinez, KFL PAC chairman, in a statement, "but Tim's stellar credentials, solid background and consistent voting record deserve our immediate support. We are proud of this endorsement, and enthusiastically support Tim Huelskamp in his efforts to bring his conservative Kansas values to the U.S. Congress."
KFL PAC also cited Huelskamp's decade-long battle to "defend the Right to Life in the Kansas state Senate." Huelskamp and his wife, Angela, have also been active in assisting women in crisis pregnancies.
Recently, Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee endorsed Huelskamp, as did Louis Sheldon, Ken Blackwell and Concerned Women of America.
"Tim Huelskamp has an impressive and admirable track record of fighting hard to defend the right to life. He has a 100 percent pro-life voting record, and has consistently been the best friend we have had in the state Senate," said Kathy Ostrowski, legislative director for Kansans for Life.
Huelskamp's opponent, former Brownback Chief-of-Staff Rob Wasinger, has been endorsed by former Sen. Fred Thompson and by David Barton, an evangelical leader and founder of WallBuilders.
