Kansas may not have a law protecting citizens against age discrimination, but if a Senate panel's recommendation to the full Senate is followed, the state may soon add sexual orientation and gender identity to state discrimination laws.
If voted into law, the bill would create "special protections" based on sexual practices, something that could have practical ramifications on businesses that some find disquieting.
