AFP director says online resource puts taxpayer dollar information right at Kansans' fingertips
Groups launch government transparency Web page
Americans for Prosperity and the Kansas Policy Institute have teamed up to provide an online transparency tool that will allow Kansas residents to see exactly how the government uses their taxpayer dollars.
Any Kansan can access the web page — KansasOpenGov.org — to gain insight into how many taxpayer dollars the state is taking in, and how and where those dollars are being spent.
"The data on this site comes directly from official government sources," said Kansas Policy Institute President Dave Trabert. "We want Kansans to be able to easily access this information by putting it all in one online site."
AFP and KPI have launched an advertising campaign to increase the public’s awareness of the online data search tool, including television ads in Wichita, Topeka and Kansas City that focus on the fact that despite recent cuts, K-12 schools are still receiving 26 percent more funding than they received in the 2004-2005 school year.
"This Web site is another way to further our goal to educate Kansans about how much of our tax dollars the state collects, and for what those dollars are used," said Americans for Prosperity Foundation-Kansas State Director Derrick Sontag. "We want Kansans to be aware of this resource that puts the figures right at their fingertips."
