Kansas Liberty: 04 February 2010

Kelsey: “I was surprised it was such a close vote but that is a very liberal committee, it is definitely not one of the conservative committees."

Resolution aimed at schools suing state with taxpayer dollars passes committee

The resolution is sponsored by Sen. Dick Kelsey, R-Goddard and sends a message that could impact the lawsuit the Schools for Fair Funding organization has launched against the state.

Use of tax dollars for the intended purpose

Posted by Kathy Martin at 2010-02-06 11:53
It makes me sad to see those committee people who voted against this resolution. I'm wondering how many of them are lawyers? It seems to me it's the lawyers who benefit the most from such lawsuits, like the one we had in 2006, and are facing now in 2010. I wonder if it's even Constitutional to use money intended for one purpose, ie. education, and use it for another purpose, ie. lobbying/litigation. I thought the schools are all bemoaning their tight budgets and program/personnel cuts. What did they/will they cut to have the money to enter this current litigation, and to continue with it?
