Kansas Department of Labor wage survey likely to cheer doctors

It’s no wonder health care is so expensive.

According to a report issued Wednesday by the Kansas Department of Labor, the top 10 paying jobs in Kansas are all in the health care industry.

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons were the top earners, at $98.66 an hour, or $205,210 a year.

The lowest-paying jobs in Kansas - and the most available - are in the food service industry. Counter attendants, cafeteria workers and coffee shop attendants earned an average of $7.08 an hour.

The average wage in Kansas for all occupations is $17.45 an hour, $2.11 less than the national average of $19.56.

The report also showed that the most common job in Kansas is retail salesperson. The 40,040 retail salespeople in the state make an average of $19.85 an hour.
